Word searches worth
the ink you print them with.

Every puzzle on this site is built to a published spec — grid size, word count, allowed directions and font size are defined per difficulty level, stated on every PDF, and checked before release. Download, print, solve. No account, no watermarks.

Every puzzle follows a published spec

Most printable word searches are generated in bulk with no design criteria at all. Ours aren't. Before a puzzle is published, six parameters are fixed by its difficulty level — and we print them on the PDF so you can hold us to them.

Parameter Easy Medium Hard
Grid size10×1215×1520×20 or larger
Word count8–1215–2025–35
Allowed directionsAcross & down only+ diagonalsAll 8, including reversed
Font size16 pt13 pt11 pt
Recommended age5–89 and upAdults & teens
Difficulty criteriaNo overlaps, common short wordsSome overlaps, mixed lengthsDense overlaps, similar-looking words

Large print editions override font size to a minimum of 18 pt at any level. Read the full design methodology →

How to choose a word search

Match the grid to the solver, not the other way round. For new readers, pick across-and-down-only grids with 16 pt type. For a coffee-break challenge, a 15×15 with diagonals is the sweet spot. Reversed words are what really separates hard from medium — if a puzzle allows them, expect to double your solving time.

Printing tips

Print at 100% scale ("actual size"), never "fit to page" — our margins already account for both A4 and US Letter. Standard 80 gsm paper is fine; if solvers use markers, 90–100 gsm avoids bleed-through. Greyscale printing is safe: no puzzle on this site relies on color.

Classroom use

Word searches work best as vocabulary reinforcement, not busywork: hand them out after introducing the word list, not before. Our kids collections are graded by age band, and every answer key prints on a separate page so you can copy the puzzle alone.

Frequently asked questions

Yes — every puzzle and answer key on this site is free to download and print for personal and educational use. No registration, no locked "premium" versions.

All of them. The answer key is a separate PDF page, so you can print the puzzle without accidentally handing out the solution.

Yes. Every PDF is laid out with margins that fit both paper sizes at 100% scale, and the specs table on each puzzle page states it explicitly.

Yes — classroom, tutoring, care homes and community groups are all covered under educational use. You can photocopy as many as you need for your group.

By a fixed spec, not by feel: grid size, word count, allowed directions, word overlaps and font size all change per level. The full criteria are in our design methodology.
