Vegetables — Easy Word Search
| Grid size | 12x10 |
|---|---|
| Words to find | 10 |
| Font size | 16 pt |
| Paper | A4 & US Letter |
| Answer key | Included |

Ten vegetables that appear in almost every household's weekly shop, chosen for recognition over culinary variety.
The shortest words ("corn" and "onion") help new solvers gain confidence quickly, while longer entries such as "cabbage" and "broccoli" encourage them to scan the whole grid instead of stopping after the first few finds. In total, this puzzle hides 10 words (carrot, potato, onion, tomato, broccoli, spinach, cabbage, pepper, celery, corn) across a 12x10 grid, using 11 of its 16 unique letters at least twice.
Why we chose this word list
We used "tomato" despite it being botanically a fruit, because in everyday cooking and shopping it is treated as a vegetable — the puzzle follows kitchen convention, not strict botany.
Root, leafy and fruiting vegetables are all represented, giving a genuinely varied first vegetable list rather than five kinds of the same category.
Vocabulary analysis
Measured directly from this puzzle's own grid — not a generic estimate.
Why this level is easy
- Only horizontal and vertical words — no diagonals
- No reversed words
- Short, everyday vocabulary
- No uncommon spellings
- Minimal overlaps between words
This puzzle satisfies every requirement of our easy level, as defined in our published methodology and applied consistently across every easy puzzle on this site.

Fifteen vegetables that move into root vegetables and less everyday produce: parsnip, shallot, artichoke.
The shortest words ("leek" and "kale") help new solvers gain confidence quickly, while longer entries such as "artichoke" and "cauliflower" encourage them to scan the whole grid instead of stopping after the first few finds. In total, this puzzle hides 15 words (cauliflower, asparagus, zucchini, eggplant, cucumber, artichoke, radish, turnip, beetroot, parsnip, leek, pumpkin, squash, kale, shallot) across a 15x15 grid, using 17 of its 22 unique letters at least twice.
Why we chose this word list
"Artichoke" and "asparagus" are included as vegetables that require real preparation knowledge to eat, a step up in culinary complexity from the Easy list.
We distinguished "squash" from "pumpkin" deliberately, since pumpkin is technically one type of squash — a small classification detail worth teaching rather than glossing over.
Vocabulary analysis
Measured directly from this puzzle's own grid — not a generic estimate.
Why this level is medium
- Horizontal, vertical and diagonal words
- No reversed words
- Mixed word lengths, some less common vocabulary
- Moderate overlaps between words
This puzzle satisfies every requirement of our medium level, as defined in our published methodology and applied consistently across every medium puzzle on this site.

Twenty terms about how vegetables are actually grown and classified — cruciferous, nightshade, hydroponic — for genuine horticulture study.
The shortest words ("tuber" and "fiber") help new solvers gain confidence quickly, while longer entries such as "horticulture" and "photosynthesis" encourage them to scan the whole grid instead of stopping after the first few finds. In total, this puzzle hides 20 words (photosynthesis, chlorophyll, tuber, legume, cruciferous, nightshade, nutrient, fiber, germination, rootstock, horticulture, compost, irrigation, pesticide, organic, hydroponic, cultivation, seedling, blanch, ferment) across a 20x20 grid, using 19 of its 21 unique letters at least twice.
Why we chose this word list
"Cruciferous" and "nightshade" are real botanical families (broccoli and cabbage are cruciferous; tomato and pepper are nightshade) — accurate classification vocabulary, not decoration.
We paired "hydroponic" with "compost" deliberately, contrasting two entirely different real growing methods rather than only covering traditional soil farming.
Vocabulary analysis
Measured directly from this puzzle's own grid — not a generic estimate.
Why this level is hard
- All eight directions, including reversed words
- Longer, denser word list
- Similar-looking decoy letter sequences in the filler
- Frequent overlaps between words
This puzzle satisfies every requirement of our hard level, as defined in our published methodology and applied consistently across every hard puzzle on this site.
